It's Worth It - Pedigree Dog Food Critique
Other dog must have an iron constitution because she seems fine. I used to be a fan of Canidae, but after $2k in recent vet bills and a very sick dog, I found out there is a HUGE amount of Consumer Affairs complaints about this company. It is clear something changed and I believe it clearly is no longer as organic as it once was...we are on the hunt again. I am not saying it does not have good quality ingredients...but if you have a dog that is highly chemical sensitive...this likely is not for you.
His doggy breath has never been better. If I could give this food 10 stars I would. He doesn't shed, so I'm watching carefully for any new hair loss. I won't wait it if occurs, I will take him off.
I initially settled on Canidae, but also tried Wellness on a recommendation. The Wellness produced loose stools in two of my foster poodles, so I no longer use that brand. What's not to love" I do mix this with some Prescription Diet J/D since I have one "older' dog and 1 with some allergies and the combo seems to help. I tried another bag last week-- same results. Other dog owners/breeders/vets/handlers have also reported problems with Canidae foods over the past few months.
My doggie loves it a lot, my budget howls though. I can't find it steadily at the local stores so catching it on sale is out of the question. I was delighted to buy it on Amazon. The price for the 12.5 pound bag is slightly more than what we were paying for the 7 pound bag locally.
I have to say that my black lab mix has an even brighter coat than before. I love that they came out with a 44# bag. But, I would have rather they raised the prices rather than switch ingredients without warning. Now, I've got to go hunt for another brand that is good for my dogs, and not part of the original recall. I still use kibble because it's the fastest way to feed them a meal first thing in the morning before I let them out to go potty. So gross, but that's why we covered our couches in blankets that were easily washed.
Then I heard about Newman's Own Organics, which is rated a better dog food than the "breed-specific" food I was using and cost $$ less! And then I discovered that I could buy this food at Amazon, have it shipped on a regular basis to my home with no shipping costs and a discount on the food for signing up for the subscription plan delivery - no brainer! She has never been ill and is a very healthy dog - 19 years old. Look online and investigate this product via consumer affairs.
Now my jacks eat 1/2 a cup twice daily and they have never looked better. My Papillion eats 1/4 cup AM and 1/2 cup PM.
